So…what's this about…

A few weeks ago, and by a few I mean at the start of the year, a friend and I decided we would like to become runners. And, not just kind of runners, but we want that runner’s high, this is amazing and even if I do nothing else today, I want to get out there and run…but at this moment, we are running haters. We do not love running. So, in an effort to get ourselves to enjoy running more, we are all-but-signed up for a half marathon. Because you might as well go full-force into running, right? It might not make sense, but it’s what we’re going for.

We finished our first week of running and I thought this would be an appropriate time to start documenting this process. If for no other reason than to come back to it someday in the future and realize how much I wanted to quit at times and how I might be able to celebrate myself how this is accomplished.

Beyond crossing things off my own personal bucketlist of things I would like to do in my life, I’m hoping running will help with a lifestyle change I am making, not because its a new year, but instead because I’m tired of always wanting to change myself and lacking the motivation and/or willpower to do so.

My bucketlist to accomplish in this semester, as I work in higher education and live my life on a semester-by-semester basis, is to train for a half-marathon and read the textbooks for an introductory level graduate theology course I am thinking about taking. I’m also trying to eat less processed foods because I think this will add to my overall health.

Other events in my life which have lead to this decision include my sister’s upcoming wedding…she’s a runner and I am inspired by her daily and a few other upcoming events, such as my 10 year high school reunion in September, another friend’s wedding in October, and who knows what else might arise.

We are currently building up to our three mile runs, from which we will be doing the Hal Higdon half marathon training for novices. We started last week with Week 4 of the Couch to 5k plan and will start week 5 later today.

Therefore, I’ve done the start of my part and started this blog. I look forward to sharing my journey with you, which will be as colloquial as possible…thanks for joining me.
