Good friends of mine are about to welcome an addition to their family. They are having a baby next month. As I was contemplating different possible baby gifts, I knew I wanted to use this opportunity to make a quilt. I had ideas for quilts in mind, but decided do to a coin quilt adaptation. I’ve made one other coin quilt a few years ago, and this one was exciting to explore. I know their nursery is decorated in gray, so I used a dark charcoal gray as my base. I found a really vibrant charm pack — Simply Colorful II — by Vanessa Christenson.
I think it turned out great!
I started with the charm pack and cut each charm in half. I then decided to use four different rows and began sewing until I ran out of coins. Next, I cut four long strips of Kona Charcoal at 7 1/2 inches wide. Three were used to go between the rows of coins. One was then cut at different lengths so that the coins could sit off-center:
I’m excited that the happy couple should have received this care package at this point and I cannot wait to meet the new addition to their family after she arrives in 6 weeks or so!
